I also live in Seattle. I own a g2 and the 4g sucks ass! I want to smash my phone whenever it runs slow, when on 4g. I always switch it to 2g(edge) and its so much faster, which makes no fucking sense.

I signed on for another two years because I wanted something comparable to an Iphone so I decided to try the MyTouch. Only after T-Mobile signed me up, sent me the phone and charged me did I discover that there is no 4G in my area and only a small part of my state has it. I have been with T-Mobile for 7 years and once this is up, I am through.

I signed a 2 y contract to with the rocket 2 device. I was told that the it is unlimited just instead of 4G the speed will be around 3g. Now even if it's saying H+ actually the download is more 3G less than 6Mbits.
And after the 5GB the speed drops not to 3G - it goes waaaaay down to 8-12KB/s and disconnects all the time without a reason.

I feel that the throttling to 8-12KB/s is very abusive considering that the plan is priced at over $50 per month. T-Mobile is abusing its customers. There is no reason why the speed should go down that low. I am very unhappy with the plan but I am bound to the contract just the same. I feel ripped off to say the least.

Just make sure you don't sign up for their 4g web rocket internet service. What a nightmare. They have no way of challenging your cancellation fees, even when their map says I live exactly in the coverage zone and it doesn't work at all.

I have found the same thing with my BlackBerry Bold 9000. Battery life has never been great, but I can get a day out of it without hracging, but when sat at the desk I generally leave it in the hracging dock.I live in a place that has not 3G coverage, but when I go into the city centre where there is 3G, the battery level just zips down, sometimes to a point where it has left me with not enough charge to make a call.I generally set the phone to 2G only as similar to you I have no real need for 3G, but more need for battery power.
