A disputed collection that originated with Sears in 1998 ended up in the hands of LVNV Funding, and nothing that I do gets through to them. I have disputed the debt since its origin with Sears. The background: At the end of a 3-year extended warranty on a Sears dishwasher and range purchased in 1995, I received a phone solicitation asking me to extend for another 3 years. I refused. I was, nevertheless, charged for a 3 year renewal on my next Sears bill. I responded immediately to correct that charge. Sears refused to remove it unless I returned the merchandise. There was no merchandise to return. It was a catch 22. Sears stonewalled & turned it over to a collection agency. I’ve explained this many times over the years. Now LVNV’s refusal to acknowledge this non-existent debt is preventing me from refinancing my home.
