Lenovo placed for sale an IdeaPad Y460. They provided a coupon on their website for $600 off which brought the total down to $399 not including tax. Eventually they said it was a web error but the cancellation e-mail stated a lack of stock problem.

Hi All,
My name is Nano Serwich, and I am the Social Media Manager at Lenovo in Morrisville, NC. We have been following your concerns about the promotion we ran this week on this forum as well as Twitter and other Social Media sites. Our team did some investigating and found out that this week we did run a special promotion on our website for a particular model of the IdeaPad Y460 laptop (P/N: 06334MU). We received an overwhelming response to this offer and quickly sold out of inventory. We were able to fulfill several hundred orders on a first come, first serve basis. Unfortunately, we had to cancel orders that couldn’t be fulfilled and are refunding payments to customers. I apologize to those of you who were trying to purchase a computer this week and ran into problems.

Shame on you, Lenovo Sales. You create a deal on the front page of your site, show the item as in stock, authorize the full charge to our credit cards, and provide us with a ship date, then you come back more than 24 hours later with a canned, email response of lies?? Your own representatives even state that it was a "pricing error," not a stock issue, yet your email claims it was due to "low inventory"? Give me a break. You make customers by telling us the TRUTH.

I called Lenovo (866)428-4465 and was first told that all the orders from y'day were canceled due to the price error. Then I asked the lady to send me that in an email. She puts in on hold for a few minutes, then came back telling me that some people got that order then it ran out of stock also due to the pricing error now most of the orders are canceled. If I still want the Y460, she suggest me to talk to the Sales which is probably going to waste my time so I decided to hang up. Oh well.... That's for my Lenovo experience!

I called and spoke with a customer service representative. There was a discrepancy with what he said vs. this email. The email states it is out of stock and the person said it was a price error. I asked for his manager and then he claimed it was also a price error and that in the terms and conditions, it states that Lenovo can cancel an order in this case: http://shop.lenovo.com/ISS_Static/merchandising/US/shopping_faq/popups/purchasemachine_840.html

If you look under section 6 though, it says:

6. General
Lenovo may change components or parts of a hardware Product without notice due to the availability of such components or parts, provided that the components or parts provide equal or better performance. Such changes will be at no additional cost to you, and will not affect the hardware Product Lenovo Limited Warranty.

Considering there is still a Y460 available with two different components (Core i3 vs. Core i5 and ATI graphics vs. Intel HM55) and the rest of the system being identical, I would like to have this substituted as stated in the terms and conditions.

Your right to cancel my order as stated in section 2 clearly doesn't apply here, since according to the email sent and Nano's company response , this is not a pricing error, but a matter of being out of stock.

According to the terms we agreed to, you owe us an equal or greater laptop at the same price.

I too would like to know if I can get a similarly priced machines as per the terms. I do not think that it is fair that a company can string its' customers along and provide horrible customer service when inquiries are brought up via telephone or chat. A very bad customer experience. I will not advise any of my friends to go for lenovo. Above all the response from the company shakes my confidence in it. How can they have built a order system which doesn't know what is stock in hand. It's unfortunate that Lenovo spiraled out of control on the 20th and could not coral the lies to provide a cohesive reason for the cancellation. It's clear that Lenovo made decisions without contsidering the consequences. The laptop is only as good as the customer service and from the multitude of complaints on the web not only regarding this issue, but many, many others, Lenovo's growth will eventually decline unless they change their ways.

Lenovo prides itself on "Morals and Ethics". These men have not showed any of these values based on the information above. I hope that Lenovo HR will take the necessary steps to look into these matters. I would look at their trips to Brazil, China and Argentina and see what their expense reports look like. If Lenovo HR fails to look into this matter these men will continue with these illegal acts and they will continue to use Lenovo's money and time doing them.

I would hope that a great company like Lenovo would want to know what their employees are doing when they travel abroad. I would also hope that Lenovo does not want men such as these representing their company.
