Lenovo placed for sale an IdeaPad Y460. They provided a coupon on their website for $600 off which brought the total down to $399 not including tax. Eventually they said it was a web error but the cancellation e-mail stated a lack of stock problem.

Company Response
The following response has been submitted by the company. It's source has been verified by Groubal.
My name is Nano Serwich, and I am the Social Media Manager at Lenovo in Morrisville, NC. We have been following your concerns about the promotion we ran this week on this forum as well as Twitter and other Social Media sites. Our team did some investigating and found out that this week we did run a special promotion on our website for a particular model of the IdeaPad Y460 laptop (P/N: 06334MU). We received an overwhelming response to this offer and quickly sold out of inventory. We were able to fulfill several hundred orders on a first come, first serve basis. Unfortunately, we had to cancel orders that couldn’t be fulfilled and are refunding payments to customers. I apologize to those of you who were trying to purchase a computer this week and ran into problems.

What a shame. Decent computers, but piss poor customer service and sales.
Maybe if they were forced to honor their prices, they would take greater care in proofing sales before posting deals to their site.
Which would have been far more acceptable instead of lying and saying it was out of stock without sending out a single one at the posted price.
Bad business practices! Shame on you, Lenovo.
Bad, bad business practice Lenovo

If you look under section 6 though, it says:
6. General
Lenovo may change components or parts of a hardware Product without notice due to the availability of such components or parts, provided that the components or parts provide equal or better performance. Such changes will be at no additional cost to you, and will not affect the hardware Product Lenovo Limited Warranty.
Considering there is still a Y460 available with two different components (Core i3 vs. Core i5 and ATI graphics vs. Intel HM55) and the rest of the system being identical, I would like to have this substituted as stated in the terms and conditions.

Your right to cancel my order as stated in section 2 clearly doesn't apply here, since according to the email sent and Nano's company response , this is not a pricing error, but a matter of being out of stock.
According to the terms we agreed to, you owe us an equal or greater laptop at the same price.
I am going to check on that. It might be hard to get a quick response this late on a Friday, but I will keep you updated. Thanks,
Nano

I smell BS!!
Then I get this email saying it was sold out. What an outstanding lie!!!
Complete BS. But if I were them, slightly understandable.
Online order statuses and ship dates that are incorrect, emailed cancellations with reasons that don't match what Lenovo's own sales team says, credit card charges tied up for days, etc.
SHOCKINGLY POOR CUSTOMER "SERVICE" BY LENOVO.
Subject: Home with Flu....
I will be out of the office starting 01/24/2011 and will not return until 01/26/2011.
What a crock.....
"Last week, we ran a special e-coupon promotion on our website for a particular model of the IdeaPad Y460 laptop (model number: 06334MU). We’re embarrassed that the coupon we offered contained a significant pricing error – we meant to sell the laptop at a steep discount at $599, but by mistake, advertised it at $399. As you can imagine, this pricing error triggered an overwhelming response.
We filled orders on a first come, first served basis until we sold out. We then cancelled the remaining orders, and we’re now working to quickly release credit card authorizations. We want customers to know we have not charged their credit cards.
Unfortunately, there are no more Y460 laptops in this configuration (model number: 06334MU) left since we have discontinued this particular model. We’re sorry about the mistake and want our customers to experience all the fun computing features of Lenovo laptops. We are extending a special offer to our customers who were affected and will be contacting you directly with details. Thanks again for your patience and continued business." Source: SlickDeals.net
I don't think it's as good as the original deal. Disappointed at Lenovo!!
not the same as an ideapad
this is an entry level machine and not a 14 inch screen, boo lenovo, yea dell
Prefer a universal 400 off or Y460!

its bad enough to screw people over on the orders but to assume they are stupid too.... well enough said......
price'... We could buy this from Best buy at $499!! Sometimes Best buy offers 10% or 20% off coupon, which will totally beat $449!! I suggest we wait for a better offer!!
