I'm just a loyal customer/enthusiast/free-time developer who wants the most from my devices and expects carriers and manufacturers to live up to their own promises. I based my purchase off of your CEO's statement that all phones would be unlocked( https://www.facebook.com/HTC/posts/10150307320018084), and my previous good experiences using and developing ROMs for 5 other HTC devices on AT&T (Tilt, Fuze, Tilt 2, Aria, Inspire). If this doesn't get resolved, I'll have to eat the $35 restock fee, return my Vivid, and buy the Skyrocket, made by a company that cares enough to give its customers what they want.

I think CarrierIQ removal with custom roms and kernels is the best defense HTC might have here...

I have been a customer of HTC for several years but on Dec 7 that will end if the bootloader is still locked. I for one don't like to be lied to, especially by someone just wanting to make a sale.

As a professional developer,a locked bootloader makes native code harder to profile and debug. My next developer device and personal recommendation will not be for a device with a locked bootloader.

Stick to your word and unlock the bootloaders.

I, along with many others were under the impression that this device was going to be unlocked do to the ceo's statement. this kind of lying is poor business practice and I will not recommend a HTC device again until a formal apology and unlocking the bootloader on this device and all future devices.

If you make a statement like the one about unlocked bootloaders you should stick to it.
If you want to change your mind you should make a NEW retraction statement.

As a company, HTC should be embarrassed by this. HTC built a great reputation that's they intermittently tarnish. This, however, is a glaring example that has the potential to do more damage than past examples since they openly stated that they would no longer be locking bootloaders. I will be purchasing a phone within the next week and the Vivid was a lock for me... until I heard about this. Now I'll be purchasing a Samsung Skyrocket unless HTC responds appropriately or the development community fixes (and yes, this is a defect that requires "fixing") the Vivid in the interim.

I have the Vivid right now and am signing this petition on it, and I've always felt HTC was a fantastic company, but I may have to switch to the SGS2 if this issue is not addressed.

You stated that the bootloader would be unlocked for future phones, yet it's still locked. I'm trying to decide between the Vivid or the Skyrocket, and the Skyrocket is looking better and better. Let those of us who pay for our phones enjoy them as we intend.

Android is supposed to be the 'open' phone OS. It is very difficult to do that without full access to our device.
This problem is accentuated by HTC's blatant disregard for what their customers truly want. They release a statement promising to unlock bootloaders and then turn around and lock the bootloaders on their newest devices. I'm no expert, but I think that's called lying - and people have gone to jail for such a thing. Perhaps we should look into a class-action...
