I purchased tickets on sale for $49 each way through Horizon Air (a partner company to Alaskan Air). I had to make a change within the 24 hour window, which they charged me $40 for. Then, they made the changes incorrectly and shortened my trip from three days to two.
I called the Customer “Service” line and they told me that I would have to pay $80 per person to change the flight and a service charge of $100 per person on top of that.
So, for a trip that should have cost me $100 per person… it actually cost me (100*2)+40+(80*2)+(100*2)= $600
SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS to fly from Seattle to Spokane and back. I could have flown to Florida for that kind of money!
The Customer “Service” representative at Horizon Air was completely rude on the phone. She made no attempts to provide any other options or ideas.
UPDATE 1/20/2011: Clint and Andre of Horizon contacted me through Twitter, got my story via email, and completely changed my opinion of their company. They were able to correct everything at the price I was originally quoted for the deal.
