I think it's ridiculous that in a tough economy the answer that chase found was to penalize the poor for being poor. Not cool at all. I will be closing my account with them before 02/08/11.

I was hoping this wouldn't happen. I have had GW / WAMU accounts in 1992. Chase's conversion of the free accounts was planned, so that the general user would not notice or complain (or feel that the fees were inevitable).
Chase is now added to my list of Greedy SOBs, along with AT&T and HP. Bye Bye

I have been wanting to change my banking anyway...the "bank local" idea caught my attention last spring. I guess this will now force me to really make the change. Smaller banks have better service.
Although, I am also thinking of ING's e-banking...not sure if I can handle the idea of not having a brick and mortar building to walk into.

Closed all accounts there yesterday. Rude employee didn't like it. Go to Schwab Bank, no fees or tricks, FULL ATM REBATES with no minimum balance too! That's what we did. Or use US Bank, they still have free checking.

I have been using my Free Checking Account thank to my studentship. They started charging $6 Monthly Fee on August,2010. When I asked about it, I was told that I am not accepted as a student anymore.
They asked to visit a branch and show my student I.D. They also deposited the amount of $18 back.

I was checking my account balance online and discovered that Chase charged me a $12.00 service fee in addition to the $6.00 monthly fee I already pay for the "free" checking. I am so pissed at this point, because I choose not to do direct deposit or have $5,000 a month in my account you feel I should give you $12.00? Where is the logic in that ? I'm only with Chase by default because my original account was with Washington Mutual but since they merged....... I've been telling myself for the longest to open an account with a credit union, but this has really put the fire under me to do it NOW!!! Hope others get fed up and do the same.

Not only are we being penalized for struggling financially with our checking accounts but Chase bank has also started charging $3.00 per withdrawal from our savings account, after 4 free withdrawals, something that we were never charged before...any activity, even automatic bank transfers between accounts are considered withdrawals. What they are doing should be against the law! Chase bank and Wells Fargo both gouge the unemployed and financially struggling. They charge fees on unemployment debit cards, keep monies that do not belong to them, when the balance is low on thoses cards. We plan to move to a credit union, as soon as possible. If enough people pulled their hard earned monies out of these greedy banks, maybe they would revert back to old policies. Best case scenario would be that they go out of business, due to their overwhelming greed! They should be brought up on charges for unfair business practices and for taking advantage of the poor and struggling people of this country!
