Find it very ahrd to believe a huge onlione store has no inventory control running in the backend. I placed my order at midnight on the dot. Huge stuff up by B&N. Hang your head in shame!

It's a shame that 14 hours after B&N accepted my order and charged my CC that I learn that they were unable to process my order. It's bad business to sell stock that you don't have. I will never do business with B&N again and recommend all who read this follow my lead.

Extremely disappointed. After ordering my touchpad from B&N, I decided not to go into Staples/Best buy (both of which had it in stock) to buy it since the website accepted my payment and sent me a confirmation email. Very unprofessional.

I Bought mine at 12:43 am and it acted like I was getting one. I got on their site via my laptop this Morning and they had a little advertisement about it. I just checked to see if it had shipped yet, And it's been canceled. Also, I have received NO email from them. Never, EVER, EVER buying from them again.

An authorization was placed on my CC for the amount of the HP Touchpad and I spent 80 minutes on the phone today with their CSR's. I was advised conflicting information on my order being canceled. What horrible service! I still don't even know if I will get one or not! The last CSR I spoke with said I will find out eventually what happens but she couldn't tell me at this point. Really?

I understand a high demand but to have your website say "In stock" for hours after your supply was depleted is unacceptable.

Why would it take 13 hrs to inform a customer that an order will not be honored? My order was placed in the morning, during business hours. It's not like it was midnight, when staff wasn't available.

Also, if you're out of stock the previous night, why continue accepting orders? Worthless company.

How can Barnes & Noble, a giant retailer all across the United States, mess up so badly with this TouchPad fiasco?!

It's a basic idea that if your online store match your actual inventory, and when that actual inventory is claimed, the online store stops taking orders.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE?

And to top it off, in my case, after 25 mins onhold over the phone, your Customer Service Rep via telephone even checked on my order number and confirmed I would be receiving a confirmation email, and NOT a cancellation email.
Yet, the latter is exactly what I was sent.

B&N, you likely cost many customers the chance to look for this product elsewhere, if your online store didn't FAIL you and them so Miserably.

Many customers chose you because out of all the stores offering this product, yours was the most trusted of the group. YET you are the one who FAILED the most by not promptly notifying your customers that the product they were purchasing through you, was not even in your inventory.

What are you going to do regain that trust?

No excuse for this type of online order falsification. Inventory levels not reflected properly, confirmation emails and charge holds for product not shipped, phone calls not going through after hours on hold afters double digit hours after orders placed. False advertising and lack of customer service is reason this shopper and many others were order elsewhere from now on. Emphasis why these type of booksellers have no clue how to sell online and yet will be why they too fail to compete to service providers dedicated to efficient processing order methods. 19 hours to tell me you had "an unexpected customer demand for this item". The price dropped over $300. What did you expect would happen? Especially when you left your sale up for hours (ordered at 1:30am). Here's a novel thought - if you're inventor computer shows it's nearly out STOP SELLING IT! Very disappointed in Barnes and Noble with how they handled this mess. I can understand accidentally taking orders a little after running out of inventory but this is extremely excessive. Doubt B&N will do anything so looks like I look for books and coffee elsewhere.

I find it amusing that I bought a touchpad within minutes of the sale starting, get a confirmation, and even see it listed on their status site as processed, then all of a sudden they don't have any. How is it they can charge me, then lie and say they never did, then process an order for something they didn't have. Authorities need to look into Barnes and Noble's business practices.

Nowhere else would you be promised a specific good for a particular price, make a formal, binding agreement to complete the transaction, have one of the two parties involved take their share (my money) and then... 12 hours later... announce it wasn't going to happen. Saying "lol sry, no can do" just does not cut it in this day and age; an organization as grand as B&N should know that by now.
Get a better inventory management system. Oh, and if you dare use ANY of my personal information to your future potential marketing benefit, you'll regret it.

It didn't bother me so much that BN charged tax (along with a $2 upcharge), didn't offer free shipping even though I paid my $25 for a membership, what really annoys me is that it took 18 hours to notify me that an item was not in stock. I work at a small online retailer and as soon as we run out of something, it goes out of stock and orders for that item will no longer go through. It is 2011, you have a market cap of 640 million and are still unable to make a website that works properly. Unconscionable!!!

Ordered 2, 1 for me and 1 for my girlfriend....not being greedy and trying to buy a bunch to resell for a profit. 17 hrs later I get the disappointing email telling me that my purchase that went through without a hitch has been cancelled.

Very unprofessional to advertise a product, let a consumer go all the way through with the payment, make them wait around, and just to say "too bad, so sad". Imagine doing this with a consumer going into a store. Essentially, it's the same as me calling to have one placed on hold then going to the store and saying, "Oh, we're sorry, we had no idea how many we actually had in stock.....we never had any to begin with, lol"....Same situation, except we all gave our money before hand with the expectation on receiving a product that was "in stock". VERY unprofessional B&N. never again......never again.

The way Barnes & Noble handled the TouchPad fire sale was terrible and their customer service was a joke. The worst part is the 24 hours I lost in trying to find a TouchPad because I thought I already had one. It took them nearly that long to confirm that they had cancelled my order. Seeing how they don't value my time or business, they shouldn't mind losing the 2 1/2 remaining years worth of college textbooks that I will be purchasing from a competitor.

B&N should fulfill the orders. They need to order additional devices from HP even if it cost them more. They made money on every purchase you or I made at their stores or site therefore fulfilling orders they accepted at the first place will not hurt them as bad as the bad rep they will get would.

We Ordered TouchPads and bn.com never said they were out of stock, then almost 24 hours later we all get a form letter in our email, saying that they are unable to fulfill our orders.

I ordered my hp touchpad the very day it went on sale. I was researching the entire day on where to get one. I was so happy when I saw that Barnes & Noble accepted my payment. I finally felt relief since my search was over. I was just about to buy the touchpad on ebay for $200, but I stopped myself when I heard the deal. I talked to customer service the very next morning. He said everything was fine, that I could order more, & that I would receive my item in 24 hrs (since I paid for express shipping). But then I heard the controversy. I called B&N again, the rep. said that I didn't receive the cancellation email. To my dismay, she was wrong. They canceled my order & fed me wrong information. I feel so mislead. & I really needed this for school. I was counting on it.

Took hours to call through to a bored sounding and unhelpful CSO, and got the cancellation e-mail. After they charged my card. And I ordered very early. Seems like it's first call first serve which is an abysmal way of doing business.

Bought 3 for Christmas presents, they charged my card and even showed me order tracking which stated the order had been processed and even specifically stated that it was too late to cancel...just in case I was thinking about it. Apparently that is a 1 way street that only applies to their trusting foolish customers....me, apparently it's never too late for them to cancel and they can do it whenever they want, even after they've taken your money. I will NEVER purchase from them again. The only way they could make it up is by fulfilling my order WITH an additional discount now.

I am so dissapointed. I did not buy from other websites that still had it in stock because I like B&N and thought it would be better to buy from the bigger company. Guess I was wrong. Now I am not getting one at all. Should have gone with one of the other two sites I was looking at that had it in stock. Even if I were able to find somewhere that had them for sale at the low price again I wouldn't be able to get them because the funds are being held on my account because they tried to process my card before shipping it...which it clearly stated on the order would not be done until it processes and ships. I was getting one for my husband and one for myself as early christmas presents as he is deploying the beginning of Dec. before Christmas as a way for us to stay connected easier while we're apart and if I'm away from our desktop computer at families houses. So much for that.

I ordered one HP Touchpad 16GB @ 12:09am Monday morning, then @ 12:15am received an email from you stating....

"Dear nicholas johnson,
Your order is much appreciated.
As soon as your order is scheduled to ship or ready to download, we'll let you know with a second email. So be on the lookout for it."

When I received the second email in my inbox @ 4:19pm (14 hours later), I assumed it would be the scheduled to ship notification from you guys that you told me to "be on the lookout for"...but instead, here is what i read...

"Dear Valued Customer,
We are writing to you regarding your recent Barnes & Noble order for "HP TouchPad Tablet with 16GB Memory".
Due to unexpected customer demand for this item, our inventory was depleted prior to your order being processed so we are unable to fulfill this item as requested. Consequently, we have canceled your order and you will not be billed for this amount."

Wait...what???

If the HP Touch pad was sold out PRIOR to me placing the order on your website, then why was my credit card information still collected and charged the amount of $117 to my account???...by the way which has has still not been returned to my credit card account as of 11:24pm Monday? And why did you collect hundreds if not thousands of other people's credit card information for 10 plus hours after you knew your inventory was depleted. I'm not going to speculate what you could, would, or have used that information for, because I'm not an expert in that field. That's a job for the governing authority (The Federal Trade Commission) to investigate into in order to protect consumers from possible illegal and or fraudulent activity.

I find it interesting that just a few days ago on 8-18-11, that Barnes & Noble issued a press release that Liberty Media made a strategic investment of $204 million. Leonard Riggio, Chairman of Barnes & Noble said, “We could not have found a better strategic investor than Liberty Media. Their investment is a strong endorsement of our overall business and the additional capital will further fuel the explosive growth of our digital strategy.” Greg Maffei, Liberty Media’s President and CEO said, “We are excited about Barnes & Noble’s prospects as the leading bookseller in the U.S. and its growth opportunities in the digital world... This investment provides Barnes & Noble with capital to grow its business on terms that are attractive for both parties and allows us to play a meaningful role in shaping their success to generate returns for our shareholders and theirs.” I understand that Barnes & Noble is a business, but what I don't understand is that in order to have "explosive growth of your digital strategy," you need an important third invested partnership with the consumer, whom of which were not mentioned once in your press release. I speculate that if Barnes and Noble continues to write off it's consumer base in apologetic emails for their lack of online business savvy, then consumers will flock to better established online businesses such as Amazon, Apple, and Google Inc.

Also noted in the Barnes and Noble press release were, "Forward-looking statements...and information relating to Barnes & Noble that are based on the beliefs of the management of Barnes & Noble as well as assumptions made by and information currently available to the management of Barnes & Noble." Twice I have had my identity stolen in attribute to security breaches in a retail store and was extremely stressful and aggravating. I am now questioning Barnes and Nobles commitment to protecting consumers' information while shopping online at the website.

What started out as a poor and disappointing online shopping experience for me at barnesandnoble.com, quickly turned into an investigation of online shopping standards and practices, and finally an overview of quarterly earning reports indicating Barnes and Noble's declining business state and questionable future outlook stated in their own company's press release. I hope that Barnes and Noble take a good look at their practices and figure out a way to survive as a business while improving the consumers' overall online shopping experience. As a consumer, I would like to offer some advice to the directors, executives, and management of Barnes and Noble, which can best be summed up with an excerpt from an appropriately entitled article, "E-Commerce and Consumer's Expectations" from The Journal Of Website Promotion.

"...A majority of consumers choose online shopping for a faster and more efficient shopping experience. I ordered my TouchPad at 4:30 AM Central when I got up to go running on Monday and received an email at 4:15 PM saying that my order would not be honored.

Cannot just let it go! Could have bought it then from another source for a slightly higher price, Barnes and Noble has not just been an unfortunate experience, it leaves a feeling of being cheated and deserves the company being taken to court.

I had placed the order for HP Touchpad 16GB. I am extremely disappointed by the outcome due to the following reasons:
- These orders were placed when the inventory was available with Barnes & Noble
- As per the order terms, the money should not be charged to my credit card until the product is shipped. But money was charged and I was given a expected ship date as 24th Aug
- My bank account still shows that the money is charged and amount is deducted while as per your customer service, there is no account of any charge on my account.

Based on the above reasons, I am finding really hard to accept Barnes and Noble as a credible business which does not meet its commitment to the consumers.

Was a longtime Borders Rewards Plus Customer, and was in the process of switching my allegiance over to B & N. Not after this fiasco. I am very disappointed how they handled this.

I placed the order just after midnight and received an order number with a 'thank you' only to be told 24 hours later "no soup for you." How does the inventory back end not know when the stock is gone?

How can a company with a large E Commerce website have no idea how much stock it has... Its just a matter of entering
a number X (1,400 for e.g.) and the website will automatically stop selling after that. They had 48 hours before their touchpads
went on sale. Why dint they plan. You can be off by a few but this was just plain carelessness.

Had I not thought I had gotten one I would have stood inline at my Best Buy in Peoria IL (they still had some in stock) and tried to get one.
I dint because I thought I was getting one from BN and now I missed the best buy opportunity.

It is one thing to not have something in stock. It is horrific to use the email addresses of those would-be buyers to spam about your Nook tablet!

I understand that B&N was not going to be able to make everyone happy, but they had over 48 hours to plan for this event.
It is very disappointing to see B&N screw up so badly. I would not be upset if they matched the price Saturday morning and had this difficulty, but we should note that Walmart did it successfully only 6 hours after the craze began.

1) No one, NO ONE was charged anything by B&N. There is a hold placed on your account by your bank. If you don't believe it, call your bank. B&N AUTHORIZED your card, not charged it.
2) This is not "bait and switch". Look up bait and switch and you will see that.
3) B&N's actions while incredibly unethical, lame and ill-advised are in NO WAY ILLEGAL.

With that out of the way, we all should still be very upset, but upset about the lack of communication, extremely poor planning and executions and atrocious customer service. THOSE are the reasons that B&N should be punished via boycott. "Reasons" 1-3 do not exist.

While you are at it, know that correct punctuation, no profanity and grammatical structure will make this thread much more effective.

I find it abhorrent that B&N did this... If you don't have an item, DO NOT SELL IT! The fact I'm not getting one isn't the issue -- the fact I wasted an hour trying to call someone to check on the status (per B&N's request!) is the issue!

Very angry at barnes and nobles selling items they cant fulfill while other vendors were able to order more to fulfil their orders with delay shipment. Barnes & Noble really screwed things up. I got my order in at 1:30am. They took until about noon to show "Out of Stock". As the hours went by, I became more confident that my order was okay. BUT all of our bank accounts have some kind of process action meaning that you all did try to take funds from us and that we still cant use them because ya'll have not canceled the transaction!!! as a VERY poor college student who ordered this on sunday night, actually about 12:01am on monday, i had to be one of the very first people to get on this deal.. Back to the poor college student, i just paid tuition, and had $140 left in the bank. I ordered this, ad paid for express shipping, which came to 119.01, and have lived with less than $20 n the bank since i ordered this. Have literally spent HOURS calling them, eventually got ahold of them only to be told 2 different things. Also, my debt card WAS CHARGED. I was online @ 9:05 PST (5 minutes after the price drop) and placed my order. After receiving my order confirmation and having my card charged I went out and purchased over $100 worth of NONREFUNDABLE accessories for my touchpad only to get this same email 21 hours later.
I was so upset over this that I spent 45 minutes on hold with BN customer Service and got no where. So I packed up the $200 with of books I purchased in store this weekend and took them back for a refund. A company that can treat it's customers like this does not need my business.
I WILL NOT be purchasing this from useless company again.

I purchased HP touchpad from B&N and received confirmation that my order has been placed. Assured that I will have my touchpad shipped, I did not bother to order from any other site. About 20 hours later I receive an email that my order has been canceled. Had I known that before I would not have passed on the PC connection and Tigerdirect deals that came after B&N's deal. I will return all the books ($250 worth) that I bought recently from BN and all my future book purchases will be from some other book stores.

It's been more than 2 days since I placed my order. No response so far. This not something I'm expecting from a Fortune 500 company.

I called customer service and the representative was very rude and informed me that only orders processed on Friday evening (two days prior) would be shipped. This also happened with a book that was to ship "next day" but instead was ordered from publisher. That time I couldn't cancel it and ended up with two books. Hopefully they fix their database. Amazon for the win.

Shame on you B & N. You left me for 17 hours thinking I had a 16gb HP Touchpad, then out of nowhere came the cancel email. I had even talked with a customer service representative who had agreed I had a Touchpad coming "within 24 hours" after my order 12:14AM on August 22nd. I could've looked elsewhere on Monday. What a nightmare. I am trying to understand how Borders is closing all their stores and yet Barnes and Noble continues. The only thing they seem to be able to do quickly and efficiently is run your card and take your money. NEVER AGAIN will I do business with them. And if it comes down to choice between a Nook & Kindle (which it often does for countless people), I will undoubtedly buy a KINDLE. Happy bankruptcy, suckers.

It's 2011 and still B & N is unable to have a system that will keep correct inventory. Ordered 12:20 am received confirmation immed. for paymnt but then received cancellation email 14 hours later. Goint on 48 hours still no refund. They should not be able to get away with this. Some sort of advantage should be given for people who ititially purchased the item and got the cancellation notice. Priority should be given to people if they have another sale event of the same item. Very dissapointed in B&N will not shop there.

placed my order just about 20 mins after price dropped sat night / sun morning. Then decided to pick up a second for my parents. Both charges were approved and held on my card which as of wednesday morning haven't been released. I received order confirmation for both. About 3 hours later I got a your order is scheduled to ship email. Then an hour later I got the cancelation notices. I've seen many complaints on this and am actually curious to hear some one say they received their order. Slickdeals thread says they were trying to collect emails for advertising which I could believe because yesterday I already got 2 when I always select no email advertising. Major fail and if that info collecting part is true then they should be fined sensitve time and issue for those games.

I purchased 22 HP Touchpads!!! I called on phone, they said management told them the orders were not going to be processed for an "unspecified reason". I probed further, and that explanation was reiterated. She said she doesnt understand either why they cant fill these orders. She said management told all the reps to just tell customers to look out for an email shortly concerning there order. Well I did that, I got no email but my order status reflects cancelled. I believe we need to start a class action lawsuit. We have almost 800 people who have been affected by this. I would venture to guess its 1000-2000 customers, with an avg purchase amount of 2, then times the value loss of $200(vs a $300 value), is a $400,000 - $800.000 in product value loss + any other damages that could be achieved. I ordered 22 HP Touchpads. My value loss is $4000 alone.

This is ultimate thievery, it is the most unethical thing a company can do. Something sells fast, and they think they sold it too cheap, and cancel orders. Then they sell it higher priced through other channels, or they sell them at a later date for higher price.

In my online store, I would never do such a thing. For a big-box store to do this and get away with this is nothing short of sickening, repulsive, fraudulent, illegal, criminal. The execs that have arranged this need to get arrested immediately, and then taken to criminal court, then to pay restitution out of there wages for the losses created. This can happen, so suggest this to your local agency, or influential politician to lobby for the criminal prosecution against these people or the civil class action lawsuit against B&N. Barnes and Noble has used the "fire sale" to scrape names,emails,home addresses and credit card information for active online and tablet users. They have tied up millions of dollars of credit and debit for up to 7 to 10 days. Normally I would say provide a gesture of compensation but in this case I will never buy anything from this company again and make sure everyone knows it!

The company didn't tell me until almost a day later when everybody was depleted of their inventory.We should all be refunded plus a 100 dollar gift card to everyone. Like everyone listed here, I got my order number and everything. Then the email of death came. "We're sorry but your order can not be fulfiled." Now what kind of an online shop is this? They don't match their inventory with their online sales. I've tried amazon and other online shops and they always give you the product once an order is placed. B&N has the worst selling procedure/program. Just a piece of advice to B&N, stay away from online selling. You don't know how to operate an online shop. Heck, my 8 year old niece can sell lemonade better than B&N. Boycott B&N. This should serve as a lesson to then. Also sue them for charging us and not fulfilling the order.

A simple solution would have been to take the website down as soon as you realized what was happening - instead you chose to run authorizations on peoples' cards with no intention to fill orders. Unacceptable.

Awful experience. Thought that I had the Touchpad. Then 9 hrs later I get an email saying in essence, "Sorry, we don't have any more." I understand that if you don't have it, you don't have it. But, how about some offer to make up for the mistake? A discount on a different tablet or future purchase? Something other than sorry.

so after actually spending several hours on the phone with BN, i actually had my order cancelled on 8/23 around 11am. As i called the bank to make sure the funds had been returned only to find out that they not only didnt return the money, but they moved the charge from "pending" to actually processed. This is all after my order was cancelled. very pitiful. not happy, now they are telling me i will have to fax a bank statement, to them so that they can go over it. why go over it, after you know that you clearly, have taken my money.

Here is an interesting twist. I placed 2 separate orders one with credit card and one with paypal. They processed the order paid with paypal, and cancelled the credit card order. Even though, the credit card order was placed first! I am under the thought that they would have to answer for money already transacted with paypal, but with credit card they could just cancel the transaction. It shows, they did have the inventory. It wasnt a flawed inventory system, thats a croc. No company with 500,000 titles of books selling for $5 each doesnt know how much they have of course they do! Accept the hard reality that they had the inventory and really scammed you out of your touchpad. Lets get together and organize a class action lawsuit.

Barnes & Noble let me order Touchpads w/o having stock, authorized my card, and cancelled my order w/o cancelling the card authorization saying "The authorization will be released in accordance with your bank's policies." BN said they will not charge your card till ships. They charged my card - still shows as a purchase on Wednesday afternoon. They should of at least offered the nook color as a substitute. Hopefully some lawyer sticks it to them.

B&N should not have displayed units available and then cancel and order without confirmation. I received no e-mail (which the operator verified this). They will not post a banner or other message apologizing. I have called the local tv stations and reported this. Apparently, they will follow up. Bad news for B&N as Borders is already shutting down.

I did not receive my cancellation notification until 52 HOURS after I placed the order. It eludes me how Barnes & Noble did not have their website set up to properly stop taking orders after inventory was exhausted, took so long to determine how many of the orders they had received that they could not fill, and took so long to notify some of its customers that their orders were not being honored. Most of these are sellers are employees and insiders who bought two or more in order to not only gouge sale on all the people who were cancelled out, but to cover the one or more units they keep. B&N we are done. I called customer service and nothing was done to recoup consumer confidence. Why would I shop at a place that technically can't count or reconcile their bloody inventory properly? Apparently they have never handled promotional items before, what makes them any different from a start up with a shitty e-commerce cart?

ordered HP touchpad 9am monday morning. Was meant to ship 24 Aug 11 received cancellation notice that day at 2pm. WTF i passed up a craigslist opportunity to get one a 16gb for $150 coz i had thought i already got one.

Having an online system that takes orders without inventory checks is not only unimaginable in current day/time but also now looks like deceptive business practice. When i placed my order with BN, I had an opportunity to order at other websites too, but too bad that i chose BN!

I was a prior customer too, but I'd think twice before using them again. Amazon has actually been giving some users credits for the OnSale debacle, but I'm not seeing that with B&N.

That's it for B&N and me. Never again, not retail and not an eBook. I can't explain how infuriated I am about this. I was up late at night trying to get one and was finally able to buy two on B&N. For two days after they told me my order was fine and would ship. Then yesterday, poof, they said nope, not going to get one. I did NOT even get that stupid mass email they sent everyone. Office Max did the same thing to me when I bought one from them Sunday at full retail price. Two days later, poof, canceled.

These stores should have at least held the orders until they could get more in stock, even if it took weeks. I would have waited.

When I called to complain, they would not even give me a goodwill discount on another item -- any other item.

It took them 78 hours to notify me they couldn't fulfill my order. In that time I passed on a number of other opportunities to purchase the touchpad because they were sending me notifications that my order was processing and would be shipping today.

It is one thing to charge my credit card when you have the inventory but when you don't have the merchandise don't charge me than recredit my account. My little sister's bank account was overdrawn this way when she ordered her college textbook, after many hours on the phone, mom gave up on getting the fee waived for the overdraw because Barnes and Noble had not change their outlook on the subject. At the very least they should have gave her something for the overdraft fee my sister had to pay, never again Barnes and Noble will you get my business off to by my books on Amazon!

Seriously, we all could have bought Touchpads anywhere else for $99/$149, but we *CHOSE* Barnes and Noble. I, personally, chose them because I own 4 Nooks and have the Nook app on my iPad 1 and my Thrive, and I always check to buy ebooks from there before Amazon, even though I have the Kindle app available. I understand they had some kind of screw up with amounts available, but the lack of honest communication really tarnishes their reputation to me. Just *say* you are sold out, or won't sell them for the fire sale price for Christs-sake! Don't make me think I have a secured order for 2 from a "trusted" online retailer. Next time you don't even get to be in the line up of places to shop.

I ordered Sunday afternoon from OnSale and the funds from my bank account were deducted/placed on hold. Yesterday, Wednesday, I received a cancellation e-mail from Amazon (whom I hold equally responsible for the fiasco) saying that OnSale had been out of stock when I placed the order. This to me is absolute rubbish. OnSale employees must have taken advantage of the price arbitrage which to me is illegal. One of us needs to file a law suit against both OnSale (a PC Mall subsidiary) and Amazon. Let's do it folks! Keep those cancellation e-mails handy!

VERY disappointed in B&N. They are not answering the phone at the number they tell you to call, then they cancelled my order for the 16GB after 2 days of wondering and trying to contact them. I also placed an order for the 32GB model, it still shows as about to ship, but I was FINALLY able to get through and talk to someone by calling their order line yesterday and was told it is also cancelled. The 32GB model STILL shows as ordered and STILL shows as pending on my credit card. This is horrible customer service!!!!!

My area is pretty techy, so my local Best Buy was sold out quickly. I was out of town (across the street from another Best Buy, which was scheduled to open half an hour from the time of my online B&N order) so I was thrilled to be able to order one after multiple attempts elsewhere. When I placed my order, I specifically opted OUT of marketing mails. A day later, I checked mail, and oh look, a spam! That's just obnoxious. I clicked the unsubscribe link, only to be told it can take up to a MONTH?! to unsubscribe me. That's just a capital offense as far as I'm concerned. Respecting the opt-out is basic internet ethics, but then again, so is fulfilling orders.

We live about a mile from a B&N, and every now and then we'll go in and browse. I usually pick up a few books to supplement my already-well-populated Kindle. I don't think I'll be making any more of those impulse buys, B&N.
