I ordered an electronic gift card on the BarnesandNoble.com website, because I was in a rush for a birthday gift and the site said that it would “ship immediately.” I waited patiently but it didn’t ship. It’s now been 24 hours, I’ve sent two emails to their Customer Service department, and only received automated responses back. I finally called their Customer Service number and after being put on hold, I finally got through to a representative. She wouldn’t give me her name, but she was so rude, it infuriated me. She spoke to me as if I was a child, talking down to me without saying anything other than, “Your order has not yet been processed.” “Why not?” I asked. “Because your order has not yet been processed.” “What? Why? I don’t understand.” “Ma’am, I already told you that your order has not been processed.” “Why? Does this happen a lot? That doesn’t explain anything to me. Why does your site say that your electronic gift cards ship ‘immediately’ if they don’t?” She continued to tell me the exact same thing, talking in circles about the order not being processed. No, I couldn’t cancel the order – not until it’s been processed. I finally lost my cool (I’ll admit it, I used a curse word) and she hung up on me! She actually hung up on me. I’ve never been so infuriated with a company in my life.
