My mother and I was at this branch of Hang Ten, One Utama for our Chinese New Year shopping. We were looking through cloths displayed and my mother was pretty interested to buy a plain t-shirt that was on sale for RM15 each if 2 pieces were purchased.
She found her first yellow t-shirt with the size she wanted. (XL) while I just stood in the corner observing. She was searching through for a purple one, but she only found the L size because XL are usually placed further at the bottom. This sales girl came (with a very unhappy and dissatisfied face), and started rearranging the folded clothes again (she did it a few minutes before already) because it was slightly in a mess after customers searched for the size they wanted.
Since she was at the display area, my mother asked “Do you have XL for this colour?” while showing her the size-L purple t-shirt. She answered with an angry voice in Cantonese, “Everything is here already.” Minutes later, after going through the shirts, she found the XL sized one and instead of handing it gently, she kinda toss the shirt on top of the display where my mother stood.
I was just standing beside and had a clear view of her facial expression which clearly reads “NAH! Have it and don’t disturb me or the display anymore. I’m sick of folding and arranging the clothes again and again.”
My mum and I mentioned something about her being rude, and giving the attitude to customers that way which is definitely not right.
I still encourage my mother to take the two t-shirts because she really liked it, and so before we went over to the counter to pay for it, I saw the same sales girl over at the counter complaining (with angry and dissatisfied at being said “rude” facial expression) to the Second person in-charged of the day (we knew this because we later asked who’s the supervisor of the store).
When we were at the counter to pay for the clothes and made a complained to the Second Person in-Charged, and to our surprise, this young girl, were on the side of her sales person. Her reason for the sales attitude was:
“She probably was frustrated having to fold and arrange the clothes displayed too many times. There’s also so many customers today, she probably was tired and such.”
No words of apology was uttered throughout the complain period, instead what we received was a defense of the Second Person in-Charged (SPI) towards the sales girl.
And when we mentioned about wanting to bring the complain to a higher authorised person, the SPI said, “I am the SPI, the First Person in-Charged is out for lunch, so you may make your complain to me.” Yeah, when we made complain to her, she supported the sales person which means, our complain went unanswered.
Yes, you probably are tired having to keep folding clothes all day, but isn’t that your job? Isn’t that the reason you’re hired? I went to other stores who are equally busy as yours, but I still get top class treatment. And why is that? Because they have the right attitude of how customers should be treated and what they were hired for.
Hope Hang Ten’s management will be able to take strict action to their employees. I do not have the sales girl name because even after being asked for her name many times, they were too afraid to give us her name.
