I had the worst experience at Babies R Us back in April. Come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever left that store and thought…gee that was a great experience we should shop there more often. However we have been in the market for a new car seat for my daughter and I got an email from Babies R Us that they were ALL on sale. So we went… None of the car seats were on sale. A nice sales person helped me get the car seat down and assured me that if I had the email with me saying it was on sale, they would change the price up front. We looked around and ended up getting a few other things. We headed to the cash register and the checkout man picked up the car seat box, took the sticker off to ring it up and dropped it on my daughter’s arm. He DROPPED IT!!!! He mashed her poor little arm and sent my toddler into a full out meltdown. After we calmed her down and ended up adding a new ball to the ticket to help her calm down and then I inquired about the price of the carseat. He asked to see my email and called a manager, who said they would not honor the email. Why? Because it did not have a bar code in it they could use in their systems. So not only did their clumsy checkout person bruise my child, they then refused to honor their own company’s email. I was so irritated by their unprofessional attitude and complete unhelpfulness on top of the incident with my daughter that we just walked right out.
I followed up the next day by contacting the Store Director who did apologize and wanted to know if I still wanted the car seat at the price of my email. Really? That is hardly my concern at this point but instead the safety of the shoppers. I would say 99% of their shoppers have babies or small children with them and clearly they need to train their employees to be aware of small children and be careful around them. The false advertising of their email rewards program was definitly irritating, but not nearly as concerning as my daughter’s bruised arm and thier poor attitude. I bought my car seat elsewhere…
Since posting this on my blog in April I have had several friends contact me about similar experiences and clearly something needs to be done and they were not willing to listen to just me.
