My girlfriend’s mother recently passed away after a prolonged illness. During her last months, she was under the care of Asera Care Hospice. I feel that people need to know about Asera Care before choosing to use their services.
While they did seem to care about her wellbeing and the aides who came in were very nice. The treatment that my girlfriend and I received from the nurse and the social worker was atrocious. We cared about her mother and were there for her at least 4 to 5 days every week but the nurse treated us like we were evil just because we wanted her mother to keep trying all of the options that her doctors were suggesting and not to give up before her time. The social worker was clueless and obviously intimidated by the nurse who acted more like a bully than a hospice nurse. She was rude to us and very vague about answering questions and threw around confusing medical terminology. The social worker messed up paperwork and offered my girlfriend and me absolutely no support. When we went to the Asera Care office to voice our feelings about this we were told that we should have asked for support. Gee, I thought that it was her job to offer support. It’s not like this is something that we go through every day and should know what to do. She never made us aware of any support services available to us and they didn’t act like they wanted to deal with us. By the time we were aware, it was too late and we were not interested in continuing to deal with any aspect of Asera Care. We had gone to the office hoping to rectify things, but they did not seem to be concerned about our issues.
Asera Care does a reasonable job of taking care of the patient, but if you are the family of a patient don’t expect to get any compassion or support.
P.S.- You might also want to look in to Asera Care’s current accusations of Medicare fraud before choosing to use their services.
